  • construct scatterplots and consider a line of good fit; comment on the association between the 2 numerical variables in terms of strength, direction and linearity (VC2M10ST02).
  • plan and conduct statistical investigations of situations that involve bivariate data; evaluate and report findings with consideration of limitations of any inferences (AC9M10ST05).

6 different investigations for students to choose from, including; iPhone sales, AFL statistics, Basketball statistics, Spotify users, Apple Music users and atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.

The investigations encourge students to construct scatterplots, including lines of best fit and extending to developing a linear equation to represent the relationship, as well as interpret and make sense of the data. This task works well as a gallery walk in which students can produce A3 posters to demonstrate the data and key findings, with students at the conclusion reviewing each others work and providing feedback or using the scatterplot's and equations to extrapolate or interpolate.
